“Kuqa County’s little white apricot obtaining the title of geographical indication of agricultural product appraised by the Ministry of Agriculture is not only the first agricultural product in Kuqa County that obtains such title, but also the first apricot variety obtained with geographical indication in the region, said by Li Jingsong, the Director of local Agricultural Bureau on September 9.
National agricultural product’s geographical identification certification is one of the core contents of agricultural product’s “three categories products and one indication” (pollution-free agricultural product, green food, organic agricultural product and agricultural product’s geographical indication). It has important significance for the production and development of agricultural products.
It is learned that Kuqa has cultivated apricot for over two thousand years. There are over 20 quality varieties remained today. Little white apricot is the representative of the quality apricot variety cultivated by Kuqa’s unique eco-environment. With such certification, the authorized under protection little white apricot planting area covers 10667 hectares with an annual production of 156,800 tons.
