Since the implementation of the 11th Five-Year Plan, Yunnan Party Committee and Yunnan Government had supported the development of macadimia nut industry as woody oil plants. The Development and Reform Commission and Yunnan Provincial Department of Forestry had brought macadimia nut industry into provincial development plan of woody oil plants, and maken macadimia nut production bases developed by 100 thousand mu. In 2012, the planted area of macadimia nuts reached 550 thousand mu; the output of green shell nuts was over 8 thousand tons; and the output value was more than 270 million yuan, which made Yunnan the biggest production base of macadimia nuts in China and one of the major producing regions around the world. Yunan also prepared the industrial standard of Macadimia Nut Kernels and released the industrial standard of Macadima Nut Seed and Sprout, which became the technical supports of the development of macadiama nut industry.

The average yield per mu is up to 122 kilograms at present in Yunnan, whose corresponding output value reached 3000 yuan/mu, and in bumper harvest years, the yield per mu can reach around 250 kilograms, which values more than 6000 yuan/mu.
