The enactment of amended Food safety Act is expected to be applied in the first half of this year. In the new edition, the supervision department intends to improve the food safety condition with low public satisfaction by implementing more strict punitive measures.

Food Safety Act was amended by the China Food and Drug Administration and was submitted to the State Council for the first time in October 2013. It was approved in the executive meeting of the State Council in May, 2014. It is also reviewed in the NPC Standing Committee meeting twice in June and December of 2014. The enactment of amended Food safety Act is expected to be officially applied in the first half of this year.

The amendment is conducted within the Food Safety Act, which means to emphasize on innovating regulatory system and strengthen responsibilities to solve key issues under current basic structure. Methods followed by this amendment includes: Emphasizing on prevention, establishing a strict whole process control, innovating supervising system for food safety, building a strict legal responsibility system, and give prominence to the shared governance for food safety.
