25
years ago, macadamia seeds came to Yunnan from Australia. Yunnan boasts unique
natural resources unable to be copied and compared by other provinces. The good
light quality of plateau at low latitudes, plus the relatively large
temperature difference between day and night, provides a superior growth
environment for macadamia nuts, which also endows it with good quality far
better that that of the origin.
It is reported that, as of 2014, macadamia
planting area in Yunnan province has reached 1.1 million mus, accounting for
more than 98% of the nation’s total. Yunnan provincial government plans to
plant 4 million mus of macadamia nuts in the province by 2020. Then, “Yunan nut”,
will become another specially advantageous industry rich in Yunnan plateau
characteristics and with influence and right to speak in the world after “Yunan
tobacco”, “Yunan flower”.
