Recently, Shanghai Municipal Food & Drug Administration has comprehensively achieved traceability in the production and circulation link for ten categories of food including vegetable, fruit, aquatic products, grain and products, animal by-products and its products, poultry and its products, dairy products, edible oil, alcohol and beans together with other authorities.

According to statistics, 80% of edible agricultural products and food consumed in Shanghai rely on external supply, which has decided that most of food can be placed in dining-tables of Shanghai citizens through multiple circulation links so as to generate a huge food circulation industry. As of the beginning of this year, it has issued 219,000 licenses for food production, food circulation and catering service in Shanghai in which license for food circulation accounted for 68.5%.

Shanghai Municipal Party and Municipal Government have carried out deep investigation together with relevant departments of food supervision, strictly control and check and avoid leakage from law formulation to application of science and technology; meanwhile, they have coordinated relevant provinces and cities to establish tracing system for providing comprehensive control for livestock farm to cold chain of slaughter, processing and storage. It will strictly check relevant licenses at all ports for accessing to Shanghai, comprehensively control source tracing in all wholesale markets to prevent defect food from flowing.

At present, Shanghai has specified variety scope and information publicity scope of food safety tracing system by formulating local regulations. Meanwhile, it will establish large platform of food safety, unify food code and achieve code tracing for products entering into Shanghai based on cloud technology and big data. It is reported that tracing scope of “Management Methods for Food Safety Information Tracing in Shanghai” that is to be launched will mainly cover grain and its products, meat, poultry and its products.

It is reported that most of edible agricultural products and food are supplied by other provinces and cities in Shanghai and Beijing because of a large number of people.
