According to statistics of Khorgos inspection and quarantine bureau, in the first half of 2016, Khorgos port sunflower seed import has a rapid growth, and 33 batches, 1706.08 tons and total value of US 662300 dollars have been imported, which has an increase of 175%, 140%, 127% when compared with the same period last year.

With regard to this phenomenon, the inspection and quarantine bureau staff has drawn following analysis conclusions: The reasons of significant growth of sunflower seed import are as follows: Firstly, as a major oil crop planting country in the Central Asia, Kazakhstan’s sunflower seeds are characterized by high output, high quality and high oil content, thus they are very popular with the Chinese market. Secondly, imported sunflower seed transportation expense from and port is low, production and processing cost is low, and product competitiveness is strong; therefore, many enterprises have imported sunflower seeds from Khorgos port and then sold them to the mainland after processing, and the sunflower seeds are in demand.
