In recent years, the homogenized trend of global food
industry becomes more obvious, and the non-tariff barriers to trade are
reinforced. As one of the important methods for technical barriers to trade,
the phenomenon of different food labels’ regulations in all countries of the
world needs to be noticed urgently.
Food labels are protective measures and also the most
direct embodiment of internal information of foods. Either voluntary or
compulsory labels can distinguish product characteristics and improve sense of
trust for consumption. In order to protect health of consumers, normalize imported/exported
food trade and strengthen food safety risk control, all countries in the world
have formulated strict laws and standards in food label management, which are
perfected and improved increasingly.
The proportion of notification for nonconforming food labels in China to foreign notification is larger continuously, 7.3% in 2014, 4.7% in 2015 and 8.5% in 2016. Each country has increased imported food market access threshold and regulation renewal speed. The food industry in China shall also attach high importance.
