Disqualification of Over Ten Thousand of Imported Food Batches and Strict Management Needed for Foreign Food

A few days ago, more than 2000 liters of unqualified beverages imported from Russia were destroyed by Heilongjiang Suifenhe Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. The synthetic pigment acid red, a forbidden additive stipulated by China National Food Safety Standard, was detected from these beverages.

The food safety has become the “anxiety” of the Chinese people  in recent years and many consumers have turned to trust and favor the “foreign” food. However, the safety problems of the imported food exposed repeatedly show that the “foreign” food is also not safe. In fact, the “exemption from inspection” has never been given to any imported food brands in China and the imported food will be monitored in a stricter way.

AQSIQ published the list involving the information of 158 batches of unqualified food and cosmetics in last month. A lot of “foreign food” has been refused from entering into China due to food safety problems.

While the white paper of “12th Five-Year” Imported Food Quality and Safety Status published by AQSIQ previously shows that relevant departments in China detected in total 12,828 batches of unqualified imported foods with the weight as 68,000 tons during the “12th Five-Year Plan” (from 2011 to 2015).These foods came from 109 countries and districts and almost every type of imported food did not conform to China National food safety standard. The disqualification reasons included microbial pollution, unqualified quality, food additive and label, etc.
