The total domestic output of walnuts in this season holds the line with last year largely, and is totally 900,000t. In view of factors such as market inventory and demands, the market price of domestic walnut in this season may be lower slightly than last year. Currently, the walnuts grow in normal conditions without large natural diseases in each walnut producing area such as Xinjiang, Shanxi, Yunnan and Hebei.

The walnut in Xinjiang producing area is of good quality with thin shell and high nuts rate. At present, the walnut plantation area in Xinjiang producing area is about 2 million mu, and fruiting area is 1.20 million mu.

As one of top three walnut production zones, Shanxi owns walnut producing area at altitude of 700-1300m. The large temperature difference between day and night is in favor of growth of quality walnuts. Experts predict that the total output of walnuts in Shanxi shall be 80,000-90,000t, slightly lower than the previous year. The walnut output in Henan, Shaanxi and Gansu is expected to reach 120,000-150,000t, in tie with the last year.

Walnuts in Yunnan are of large size and full nuts. Due to sufficient rainfall and moderate temperature, the color of walnut nuts in Yunnan is white. Yunnan walnuts have higher quality and lighter color. Experts believe some Yunnan walnuts with high quality are completely comparable with imported walnuts from the US and Chile in quality and price.

Walnuts producing area in Hebei province mainly concentrates in Taihang Mountains, with planting area of 4 million mu and fruiting area of 2.24 million mu.

Experts talked about marketing channels of Hebei walnuts in the meeting. Firstly, the emerging fresh walnuts are hot. Moreover, online marketing becomes a hot channel for walnuts in recent years. More consumers in large and medium cities purchase walnuts by internet.

In the meantime, the consumption of beverage industry on walnuts kernels is vast. The popular jujube-walnut sandwich is the emerging consumption market of walnut kernels. Moreover, the export volume of raw walnut kernels in Hebei in 2016 is the sum of that in earlier six months, reaching the highest record in history. 

In general, currently, the walnut industry in China is still in developing stage. China has listed walnut planting as poverty alleviation project, and provides subsidy and financial support to poverty-stricken mountainous area and hilly area for walnut plantation.
