It is know from the “2017 Yunnan Walnut Industry Development Summit” held recently that currently Yunnan walnuts rank first in China in planting area, yield and output value.

Zhang Zulin, Vice Governor, introduced in his speech that Yunnan is one of the important forest areas and woody oil plant producing areas in China with various climate types, abundant forest resources, enriched biodiversity and important ecological zone. Walnut species resources in Yunnan are particularly abundant, and cultivated for a long history. It is the place of origin and main distribution area of deep pattern walnuts in the world.

Currently, the walnut planting area in Yunnan reaches 42.8 million mu with yield of 1.02 million ton and output value of RMB 30.5billion. The planting area, yield and output value all rank first in China. More importantly, over 90% counties (cities and regions) of Yunnan Province are planting walnuts, benefiting 26 million people in mountainous region. Walnut industry has become one of the Plateau characteristic industries in Yunnan Province with the most extensive coverage area, most population and the largest continuous development potential.
