The project of “Cultivation & Application of Excellent High-Yield Anti-Aflatoxin Peanut Species” which is located in Wuhan and directed by Liao Boshou, Director of Oil Crops Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, won the second prize of National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology in the national science & technology awarding meeting.

Peanut is the oil crops with the maximum total yield, total yield value and export amount in China, but it can be polluted easily by aflatoxin, which is a category of secondary metabolite generated after the aspergillus infects the peanut and the internationally recognized strong toxic cancerogen with the toxicity 10 times higher than that of editpotassium cyanide and the carcinogenicity 70times higher than that of dimethylnitrosamine. Cultivating the resistant species is the most effective measure for preventing and controlling such toxin pollution.

Such scientific research tem has established the international joint laboratory for peanut aflatoxin prevention & control, making relevant technologies go abroad and improving the international influence of China in such field.
