Recently, our reporter learned from the Forestry Bureau of Dongchuan District that Dongchuan District will improve the quality and efficiency of 30,000 mu of walnut trees this year by trimming and pruning them, whitewashing their trunks, fertilizing them and exterminating diseases and insect pests for them.

It is reported that the walnut tree quality and efficiency improvement work is a key project of Dongchuan District and will be promoted in strict accordance with the "Five-One" working mechanism for key projects (one project, one leader, one team, one plan and one-stop management). A district-level leading team and a district-level technical guide team have been established for this work. The responsibility areas have been divided to each town (street) and the responsibilities of technical instructors have been assigned to village groups. At the same time, according to the requirement of “integrating ecological compensation and poverty alleviation”, the quality and efficiency improvement project of 30,000 mu of walnut trees mainly has been assigned to nine poverty-stricken villages, which lays a poverty alleviation foundation for poverty-stricken households. At present, the materials for the walnut tree quality and efficiency improvement project have been prepared in place. 17 publicizing and training activities have been organized and the construction teams established for this project have trimmed and pruned 7200 mu of walnut trees, and whitewashed 700 mu of them. By now, 3 million yuan has been invested for this project.
