It is learned from Forestry Department
of Yunnan Province the other day that Yunnan now has become the globally
largest macadamia nuts planting base. At present, the fruiting area of
macadamia in Yunnan is about 320,000mu, fresh fruit output is over 40,000t and
output of shelled fruit (removing fresh fruit peel) is 16,000t. The total
output value reaches CNY 185 million.
By the end of 2017,
40 counties (districts and prefectures) in 8 states (cities) including Lincang,
Dehong, Banna, Puer, Baoshan, Honghe, Wenshang and Nvjiang in Yunnan Province
grow macadamia nuts, with area of 2.62 million mu, about 93% of nationwide planting
area. The area is larger than the total planting area of macadamia nuts in
other countries and regions (about 2 million mu), and accounts for 56% of
global macadamia planting area (about 4.6 million mu).
By 2020, the macadamia nut planting area in Yunnan Province will reach 4 million mu, and comprehensive output will exceed CNY10 billion. The fruiting rate will be increased from 12% to 30% by then, and fruiting area will be added up to over 1 million mu from 320,000mu. The shelled nut output will grow to 200,000t from nearly 20,000t year by year.
