The other day, the third batch local standard project plan of Jiangsu Province is officially released. Two standards including Product of Geographical Indication – Pizhou Ginkgo and Product of Geographical Indication – Pizhou Chestnut are approved to be amended. Ginkgos and chestnuts have been planted for a long time in Pizhou. They enjoy reputation at home and abroad due to vivid regional characteristics and good product quality. They were listed in China products of geographical indication respectively in September 2010 and December 2014.

In order to effectively normalize production behavior of ginkgos and chestnuts, improve quality of ginkgos and chestnuts quality, and promote healthy development of ginkgo and chestnut industry, the former Pizhou Quality and Technology Supervision Bureau, and Pizhou Agricultural Commission organized professional technicians to carry out extensive investigation, research and repeated data demonstration in links of ginkgo, chestnut land conditions, natural environment, breeding cultivation, collection and storage, and formulated two local standards of Product of Geographical Indication – Pizhou Ginkgo and Product of Geographical Indication – Pizhou Chestnut. The two standards were approved respectively in July 2013 and December 2015 upon assessment and review of experts organized by Jiangsu Province Bureau for Quality and Technology Supervision. However, due to changes in climate environment, soil conditions and product parameters, aforesaid two standards have no longer been adaptive to production requirements of ginkgos and chestnuts. It is necessary to revise and improve technical requirements in the standards, and improve cultivation, management and processing conditions of ginkgo and chestnuts so as to improve technological contents of products. Therefore, Pizhou Quality and Technology Supervision Bureau, and Pizhou Agricultural Commission put forward application for amendment in October 2017 and the amendment was approved on Oct. 24, 2018.

After the local standards Product of Geographical Indication – Pizhou Ginkgo and Product of Geographical Indication – Pizhou Chestnut are amended, they will not only help improve product quality of ginkgos and chestnuts, but also help enterprises engaging in ginkgos and chestnuts production acquire application qualification of special logo for product of geographical indication so as to further improve popularity and reputation of Pizhou Ginkgos and chestnuts, and improve added value of products.
