Further clarifying food name labeling method

Recently, Food Safety National Standard Review Committee for Food Safety released a correspondence about opinions on amendment draft of National Standard for Food Safety - General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods (Exposure Draft). The newly amended standard (Exposure Draft) will replace the original GB 7718-2011 General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods.


  Compared to GB 7718-2011, the amended standard (Exposure Draft) has the following changes:


  Adjusting sequence of chapter numbering;

  Adding definition of food property name, revising production date and definition of quality warranty period, and deleting definition of main display layout;

  Further clarifying labeling way of food name;

  Revising labeling requirements of the burden sheet, further clarifying labeling way of food additive, revising requirements for classified labeling of burden sheet, and revising requirements of quantified labeling;

  Revising minimum height of words, symbols and number of compulsive label contents, and maximum surface area requirements of corresponding wrappage or packaging vessel; 

  Revising labeling requirements for allergic substances in food;

  Adding labeling requirements for special food;

  Adding labeling requirements for imported food;

  Further clarifying the calculation method of maximum surface area for irregular wrappage in Annex A;

    Adding Annex C “Form of burdening quantified labeling”, and Annex E “Labeling form of allergic substances in food labels”; changing original Annex C to Annex D.
