On the morning of January 9, a minibus carrying Rwandas
ambassador to China Charles Kayongjia and his party arrived at Bainiu Village
in Lin An, Zhejiang Province. On October 31 last year, Rwanda joined hands with
Alibaba to build Africas first eWTP (World Electronic Trade Platform). from
January 7 to 10 this year, 12 principal leaders from 9 departments of the
Rwandan government flew to Hangzhou for a 4 - day study at Alibaba
headquarters, hoping to have a comprehensive understanding of China’s digital
economy, Alibaba’s e-commerce ecology, technology and finance, rural Taobao,
cross-border e-commerce and new tourism. This visit to Bainiu Village is a very
important lesson.
Rwanda is rich in nuts, but hickory nuts are the first time to be seen. Bainiu Village has sold 350 million yuan of hickory nuts annually through e- commerce. With the advantage of its country of origin, Bainiu Village has sold hickory nuts through Taobao since 2007 and has achieved an explosive growth in sales from 1 million yuan to 350 million yuan in 10 years.
