Due to abundant returns in recent years, walnuts become
one of the most important agricultural crops in Chile. The latest report issued
by the United States Department of Agriculture shows in 2019, the nationwide
walnut growing area in Chile has reached 45,000 ha. (675,000 mu), and the
number is increasing continuously at the speed of 1500 ha.(22,500mu) every
year. Meanwhile, the report predicts that in 2019 the walnuts output in Chile
is expected to reach 150,000t (unshelled); while in 2020, under influence of
adverse weather conditions, more new gardens will put into operation. The
output is expected to increase 3.3% year on year based on the number in 2019,
about 155,000t.
