According to 2020 China Agricultural Industry
Development Report issued by Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and
International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) on June 3, in 2019, the
self-sufficiency degree of rice, wheat and corn in China reached 98.75%,
providing firm guarantee for steady development of economy and society, and
emergency resistance.
The report says, the grain yield in China
keeps stable in five consecutive years, in which the cotton, oil and sugar
production is stable, fruits and vegetables supply is sufficient, and pork
output rise again after a fall. Moreover, the potential influence of the
epidemic on agriculture and relevant industries as well as incomes of farmers
is evaluated by simulation from the perspective of the industrial chain.
Results show COVID-19 impacted domestic economy greatly; however, relatively
speaking, the impact on agriculture-food system is little.
According to the report, it is
necessary to establish a healthier and more compatible food system with better
resilience ability and more coping to climate changes so as to resist rapid
global spreading of COVID-19 and unsafe food, malnutrition and poverty
intensity problems caused hereby.
