Since 2010, Guizhou has been striving to develop walnut industry. At present, total walnut tree planting area is 3.79 million mu in the entire province, including Songtao County, Tianzhu County in the east, Weining County and Panzhou city in the west, Xingyi city, Ceheng County in the south, Wuchuan County and Yanhe County in the north; Jinping County and Liping County at low altitude, and Hezhang County and Shuicheng District at high altitude.

In July 2020, walnut industry started accepting management of Guizhou Forestry Bureau, and realized new breakthrough in policy formulation, base construction, seedling guarantee and fundraising. However, problems such as low fruiting rate, extensive management, weak processing and insufficient input still exist. Although there are 142 operating entities of walnuts in the province, they mainly produce nuts rather than refined and deep processing products which have low output and low market share.
