In recent years, China’s dependence on sesame imports has remained at a high level. In 2020, the sesames imported by China reached 1,016,400t.
From January to October, 2021, the sesames imported by China amounted to 1,002,700t, an increase of 11.59%.
Statistics from China National Grain & Oils Information Center show that sesame is the fourth largest variety of edible oil seed imported by China. The data reveal that sesames purchased by China account for 50% of the world’s total, of which 90% come from Africa, and Sudan, Niger, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Togo are the top five import origins for China.
