On the morning of July 10, Professor Li Lin's peanut team from the College of Agriculture of Hunan Agricultural University and Hong Kong Li Group Sun Crops Agricultural Co., Ltd. officially signed a cooperation agreement on the Nigerian peanut revival plan. According to the agreement, Sun Crops Agricultural Co., Ltd. will fund technical service fees to support Professor Li Lin to implement the modern and efficient peanut cultivation technology of the team in the planting area of Jigawa State, Nigeria for a period of three years (2024.7-2027.6) peanut planting experiment, innovative integration of local peanut economic and efficient planting technology. Help the average mu yield increase of more than 50% in the demonstration planting area.
Hunan is the leading zone for in-depth economic and trade cooperation between China and Africa. Nigeria is rich in light and temperature resources. In the past ten years, Hong Kong Lee Group has established and improved the planting, production, processing and sales of agricultural products such as rice, sugarcane, peanuts, sesame and cotton in Nigeria. However, in the implementation of the peanut production project in Nigeria, Li's Group found that peanut planting suffered from problems such as reduced output year by year, high blighted rate, poor quality, and poor economic returns for farmers.
In December last year, the College of Agriculture of Hunan Agricultural University organized the annual meeting and achievement promotion meeting of the College of Modern Industry. Li Group learned that Li Lin's team has peanut high quality and high yield cultivation technology, and came to seek cooperation. In May this year, Professor Li Lin's team visited Nigeria, conducted in-depth research on the local peanut growth conditions, such as light, temperature, water, soil, fertilizer, germplasm resources, mechanization, cultivation mode and other aspects, and put forward the "Nigeria Peanut Revival Plan".
Wu Jun, dean of the College of Agriculture of Hunan Agricultural University, said that through this cooperation, enterprise investment, expert wisdom and local contribution will mobilize the enthusiasm of expert services and solve the practical problems of agricultural production and enterprise efficiency in Africa. In the next step, the College intends to encourage rice, cotton, corn and other scientific research teams to actively participate in the national agricultural science and technology aid action to Africa, and help African countries achieve agricultural modernization and food security.
