On September 22, the General Administration of Customs issued an announcement on its official website regarding inspection, quarantine, and sanitary requirements for imported Myanmar macadamia nuts, permitting imports of Myanmar macadamia nuts that meet relevant requirements.

Myanmar's macadamia nuts are primarily cultivated in Shan State, followed by Kachin State, Chin State, and Mandalay Region, with a total cultivation area exceeding 12,000 acres. Among these, macadamia nuts grown in the Ywangan region of Shan State yield two harvests annually—one in spring and one in autumn.

The announcement specifies that permitted imports refer to shelled nuts for human consumption processed within Myanmar. These nuts must be produced from Myanmar-grown macadamia fruits through domestic processing steps including shell removal, drying, and sorting.

Exports to China must be free of the following quarantine pests of concern to China: Wigandia, Tribulus terrestris, and Achyranthes aspera. Imported cashews must undergo dehydration processing using drying equipment such as ovens or dryers, and must be free of live insects, added impurities, or contaminants. During processing, insect-damaged nuts, moldy nuts, nut shells, weed seeds, and other foreign matter must be removed.

Myanmar shall inspect production, processing, and storage facilities for exported Chinese macadamia nuts in accordance with China's registration requirements for overseas food producers, and recommend compliant enterprises to China. China shall register enterprises meeting these requirements. Raw materials for exported Chinese macadamia nuts must originate from cultivation enterprises confirmed by Myanmar as meeting relevant phytosanitary and food safety requirements and duly registered.

Hawaiian nuts exported to China shall be packaged in clean, sanitary, new materials that meet food safety and phytosanitary requirements, with measures taken to prevent spillage during transport. Prior to shipment, Myanmar shall inspect the transport vehicles for exported Hawaiian nuts. Transport vehicles must meet sanitary and epidemic prevention requirements and shall not contain quarantine pests or other regulated quarantine items such as weed seeds, live insects, plant debris, soil, or other foreign contaminants.
