Recently, representatives of Mtwara, Lindi, Ruvuma, Coast and Tanga provinces, the main cashew-producing areas in Tanzania, held a meeting to discuss measures to increase cashew production in each province in the next five years.
The representative of Mtwara province said that there are about 21 million cashew trees in Mtwara, with an output of 125,819 tons in 2021 / 22 and a sales revenue of 276.8 billion shillings (about 120 million US dollars). It is planned to take measures to increase the output, such as expanding the planting area, using improved seeds and timely application of agriculture devices, and replacing old trees with improved varieties.
The representative of Lindi province said that about 65,975 tons of cashew were sold in the region in 2021 / 22, and will cooperate with the Tanzanian Agricultural Research Institute to improve the modern planting technology of cashew.
The representative of Rovuma province said that in 2021 / 22, the cashew production in the region was about 25,242 tons, and sulfur product powder and liquid were needed to ensure cashew planting in this season.
