Cambodia's cashew output declined, and its export to Vietnam decreased by nearly 35%

Cambodia exported about 660,000 tons of rawness cashew worth more than $1.077 billion to Vietnam in the first seven months of 2022, down by 350,000 tons or 34.65 per cent year-on-year, according to the Cashew nut Association of Cambodia (CAC).

At present, the wholesale price of raw cashew in Cambodia is 1350-1750 US dollars/ton, which fluctuates according to the quality and price. The planting area of cashew in Cambodia is 7000sq km, which is widely planted in 10 major provinces. Affected by the heavy rainfall this year and the rising price of chemical fertilizer and freight, cashew output and export decreased.

It is reported that Cambodia will soon introduce a cashew industry promotion policy from 2022 to 2027, which will promote investment in cashew planting and processing and reduce the proportion of raw cashew exports. The main objective of these policies is to strengthen Cambodia's ability to plant, store, process, package, sell and export cashews and cashew products, and expand Cambodia to majority cashew producers and suppliers within and outside the region.
