According to “The Senegal Daily” reported on December 7, Senegal's National Strategy Implementation Committee yesterday released the Strategic Plan for Revitalizing Cashew Industry and the Manual for Coordinated Development of Cashew Industry Chain. These two documents made a general plan for the development of the cashew industry, with the ultimate goal of improving cashew output, product quality and added value. According to the official statistics of Senegal , from 2018 to 2021, Senegal will export 82000 tons of cashews, amounting to 54 billion FCFA (about 90 million US dollars). As the industry is mainly controlled by Indian and Vietnamese businessmen, only 2% of cashews have been processed locally, and the output value left in the local area only accounts for 3% of the final product. The Senegal government hopes to strongly encourage enterprises to invest in the development of the local cashew processing industry, so as to leave more product added value in the local area, and provide relevant employment opportunities.
