On May 16, 2023, GTCI, a cashew processing group in Cote D Ivoire, declined to comment on the global cashew crisis. Due to factors such as the pandemic, the purchasing power of families has been severely affected. Cote D Ivoire, the world's largest producer and exporter of cashews, is currently selling its product at a price of 150 West African francs per kilogram, which is the lowest in 15 years. This is in contrast to the government's requirement of 315 West African francs per kilogram.
Most importers have stopped purchasing, exacerbating the problem for cashew producers. Cashew nut processors in Vietnam and India are facing financial losses, with one-third of processing plants in Vietnam going bankrupt or shutting down. As a result, the industry is calling on the government to provide assistance.
