Serbia Revised Quality Standards for Spices, Spice Extracts, and Mixed Spices

    On August 21, 2023, the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Resources issued a notice revising the quality regulations for spices, spice extracts, and mixed spices. The main contents of this revision include:

1. Revise the quality and requirements for black pepper, specifying that its moisture content should not exceed 13%, ash content should not exceed 7%, piperine content should not be less than 2%, and the level of exogenous impurities in black pepper seeds should be less than 15%.

2. Supplementary regulations stipulate that the content of oregano aromatic oil in chopped or ground oregano leaves shall not be less than 1.5 ml/100 g.

3. Supplementary regulations stipulate that the mixed spices containing cinnamon must have a minimum content of cinnamon aromatic oil of 0.3ml/100g.

4. Revise the method for determining the concentration of natural coloring substances in chili powder.

    This revision shall come into effect from the 8th day of the Official Gazette of Latvia.
