On August 27th, foreign media reported that the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BAGE) stated that rainfall in Argentina over the past week has been unevenly distributed. It has been concentrated in the southern and eastern regions, while the central northern and western regions have experienced sparse or no rain. This has worsened the lack of local soil moisture, which continues to hinder progress in sunflower seed planting.
As of the week ending August 23, the progress of sunflower seed planting in Argentina for the 2023/24 season was 4.1%. This represents a slight increase of 0.6% compared to the previous week, but a significant decrease of 6.2% compared to the same period last year.
The exchange expects the planting area of Argentine sunflower seeds to be 1.95 million hectares in 2023/24, which is a decrease of 11.4% from the previous year's 2.2 million hectares.
