Brazil has lifted the quarantine requirements for peanuts imported for consumption or processing

On February 22, 2024, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply issued Announcement No. 658 through the Government Gazette, specifying the revised regulations regarding the import of peanuts for consumption or processing. The key points are as follows:

1.Imported peanuts must be accompanied by a plant quarantine certificate issued by the competent authority of the exporting country. This certificate must confirm that the peanuts have undergone official inspection in the exporting country and are free from harmful moths. Additionally, the pre-export quarantine treatment method, including the treatment agent, time, temperature, and other relevant information, must be indicated on the certificate.

2.Goods must be free from any soil contamination.

3.Upon arrival at the port of entry, the peanuts will undergo official quarantine inspection and laboratory quarantine analysis.

4.The wooden packaging of the goods must comply with ISPM 15 regulations.This announcement will take effect on March 1, 2024.
