According to the Russian Agricultural Products Export Center, as reported by the Sputnik News Agency in Moscow, China and Russia ranked first and second in pinecone production during the 2022-2023 agricultural year (starting on July 1).

China's pinecone production leads globally, reaching 12,500 tons (accounting for 30% of the global production), while Russia produces 12,400 tons (accounting for 29.7%). North Korea ranks third in the production of {revised} tons, accounting for 12%.

It is reported that China is the world's largest consumer of pinecones, accounting for approximately 44.5% of the total pinecone consumption.

China has also been the world's largest importer of pinecones since 2018. From 2018 to 2022, China's pinecone imports increased by 2.1 times, reaching 35,800 tons in 2022, with an import value of US$389 million, accounting for 40.4% of the world's imports.

In 2022, China ranked first among pinecone-exporting countries, with an export value of US$297.7 million.
