Turkish agriculture shines: it leads the world in production of six agricultural products

Recently, Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Youmakli announced that Turkey, with its vast arable land - 23.9 million hectares, not only meets the food needs of more than 85 million people and nearly 50 million tourists, but also has made remarkable achievements in agricultural production.

Yumakli also highlighted Turkey's leading global position in the production of certain agricultural products. "Our country ranks first in the world in the production of hazelnuts, cherries, figs, apricots, papaya and carob," he said proudly. We also rank second in the world in the production of cantaloupes, watermelons, cucumbers, leeks, olives, oranges and apples. In addition, the production of strawberries, chickpeas and tomatoes ranks third in the world, while the production of chestnuts, walnuts, pears and red lentils ranks fourth."
On the export side, Turkey is also doing well. "Our exports of hazelnuts, dried apricots, dried figs, raisins and quince are world leaders. We are also the world's largest exporter of wheat flour and the second largest exporter of macaroni."
