Record sales of Australian Battenwood as demand peaks in India and China

Continued growth in demand for Australian Batan wood from China and India is driving sales of Australian Batan wood to another record high for the 2024/25 season.
As seen in the Australian Batanwood Association's August Position Report, global demand for Australian Batanwood remains strong despite rising Batanwood prices.
August sales were also at an all-time high, marking the third consecutive month in which the Batanwood industry has broken a monthly sales record, and the fourth new high in six months.
Exports to China were up 93% on the same month last year, while exports to India were almost back to last year's record levels after a slow start. This further confirms the value of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation Trade Agreement (AIECTA), which reduced tariffs on almonds by 50% on January 1 last year

It's easy to see from the data that the dry season brought higher product quality from Australian batanas. In contrast, regions such as Turkey, Spain and California saw product quality and grower profitability suffer last season due to weather issues during the harvest season.

While domestic sales were essentially flat and down 1% year-on-year, exports are up 21% for the season so far, totaling 88,090 tons, a little more than 17% above the best sales volume of the first half of the previous marketing season. Shellfruit sales also continued at a new high with over 47,000 tons shipped compared to just over 27,000 tons in the same period last year.
