In his speech at the 3rd/2024th National Export Strategy Government-Private Export Promotion Committee meeting, Union Minister of Commerce U Tun Ong added that the foreign export of maize kernels has exceeded the set target for the six-month period of the 2024-2025 fiscal year, the Myanmar media reported.
The Union Minister said that there are export targets set for each export product, and in the case of corn kernel export, the export within six months has exceeded the set target, and other export products need to continue to be exported in order to reach the set target.
Currently, among Myanmar's agricultural products exported to the outside world, bean export is the export product that receives the most foreign exchange, rice is the agricultural product that receives the second most foreign exchange, and corn kernel has become the agricultural product that receives the third most foreign exchange. Every year, about two-thirds of the maize grown in Myanmar is exported to the outside world and the remaining one-third is used domestically.
Myanmar produces about 3.2 million metric tons of maize a year, of which 2.2 million metric tons are exported and the remaining 1 million metric tons are used domestically.
