According to a report released by the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia's agricultural sector has made remarkable achievements in 2024, and the export volume of major agricultural products has increased significantly, which has strongly supported the national economic development.
According to the report, in the first 11 months of 2024, Cambodia's rice exports amounted to 1.27 billion US dollars, an increase of 16.4%. Rice exports amounted to US $440 million, up 4.0% year on year; Cassava exports reached 620 million US dollars, up 13.4% year on year; Rubber exports reached 520 million US dollars, an increase of 15.8%; Cashew nut exports reached 500 million US dollars, up 31% year on year; Fresh mango exports amounted to US $140 million, up 24% year-on-year; Banana exports reached $140 million, down 11.2% year on year; Exports of other agricultural products such as corn, pepper, longan and sugar totaled $310 million. China, Vietnam and Thailand are major importers of Cambodian agricultural products.
Deputy State Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ken Finong said that most Cambodian agricultural products have been exported through formal channels, which is a positive signal reflecting Cambodia's successful efforts to explore new markets and enhance product competitiveness, ensuring that agricultural products meet export quality standards.
Agriculture is one of the four pillar industries of the Cambodian economy, and the Cambodian government attaches great importance to the development of agriculture. Its policy is not only aimed at ensuring national food security, but also committed to finding international markets for high-quality agricultural products.
To promote the transformation and upgrading of agriculture, the government has launched a new strategic policy aimed at transforming the agricultural production mode from traditional family farming to modern commercial farming, and boosting farmers' incomes through value-added products. To support the implementation of the strategy, the government has deployed 250 agricultural officials in all township districts across the country and plans to increase the number to 1,300 by 2025 to strengthen human resources in the agricultural sector. These agricultural officials will provide technical guidance to farmers, assist in forming agricultural cooperatives, optimize production chains and help farmers reduce production costs.
