Croatia proposes to amend regulations on fruit juices and purees and nectar products

On February 3, 2025, the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries intends to amend the Regulation on Fruit Juices and Purees and Fruit Nectar Products, with a comment period ending on March 5, 2025. Main contents:
  
  1. definitions of fruit juices, low sugar fruit juices (natural sugar content reduced by 30%), concentrated fruit juices (water content reduced by 50%), concentrated low sugar fruit juices, and dehydrated fruit juice powders;
  
  2. Ingredients permitted to be used in the product. Sweeteners are not allowed; fruit nectar products without any added monosaccharides, disaccharides or other sweetened food products can be declared as “no added sugar” and “containing naturally occurring sugar”; lemon juice and orange juice can be added with pestle and citric acid, and the maximum amount of its addition is 3g/1. Salt, spices and herbs may be added to tomato juice and tomato juice concentrate;
  
  3. All products must be labeled according to the correct botanical or common name of the fruit used.
