The Australian Almond Board recently released its forecast for the 2025-2026 season's almond production in Australia, estimating the new season's output at 155,531 tons (in kernel weight), which is comparable to the previous season. Tim Jackson, the CEO of the association, stated that this forecast represents a 5% decrease from the pre-season prediction of 164,700 tons for the last season. He attributed this to severe frosts that hit many regions in September following the flowering period, and noted that although the 2023 harvest was poor, there was a significant increase in production last year. The addition of 20,000 hectares of new plantings in 2017, 2018, and 2019 will help boost the national crop yield this year.
Tim Jackson said that the current price of almonds might be at the highest level in five years, so they expect the performance for the 2025-2026 season to be excellent. Harvesting is underway in all major growing areas. Since the start of the harvest season, the weather has been relatively dry, and some growers have started harvesting two weeks earlier than usual. The dry harvesting conditions are conducive to improving the quality of the nuts this season, and growers also expect the kernels to be larger.

As of the end of December last year, the sales volume of Australian almonds had exceeded the official harvest volume, reaching a record high of 158,339 tons. The export demand driven by China and India has fueled the growth in sales. The latest industry status report from the association shows that Australian almond exports to China have maintained a sustained and significant growth trend. In December last year, exports to China reached 5,977 tons (by kernel weight), a 381% increase from 1,243 tons in December 2023. As of December 31 last year, Australian almond exports to China in the 2024-2025 season had accumulated to 75,053 tons, a 130% increase compared to the same period in the 2023-2024 season.

The association said that the sales of almonds in December last year increased by 56% compared with the same period in 2023, setting a new sales record for the industry.
