The Tehran Times reported on February 15 that the head of the Iranian Date Palm Association said on Saturday that Iran is the world's second-largest date producer. This year, 30% of the country's dates were exported, generating $400 million in revenue. Iran produces about 1.4 million tons of dates on 300,000 hectares of farmland each year, second only to Egypt in global production. He added that Iran's date varieties are at the forefront of the world, offering a wide range of types to meet different tastes. Iran exports about 350,000 tons of dates each year, accounting for 30% of the total production. Especially during the Islamic month of Ramadan, the main markets include East Asia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), India, the European Union and Russia. Iran consumes 70% of its date production domestically, with 40% used during Ramadan.
