Peru's Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation, Angel Manero, is on a visit to China to promote the export of Peruvian agricultural products to China and to deepen agricultural cooperation between Peru and China.
Peruvian television website reported that during his visit to China, Manero held talks with Wang Lingjun, deputy director of China's General Administration of Customs. The two sides exchanged views on deepening cooperation between China and Peru in customs inspection and quarantine, and are expected to sign an agreement this year to promote Peruvian pomegranates and organic bananas into the Chinese market.
During the talks, the Chinese side highly evaluated the progress made in bilateral relations between China and Peru, expressed its willingness to continue to facilitate the export of Peruvian agricultural products to China, and appreciated that Peru is a reliable supplier of high-quality food, and that most of China's imports of avocados and blueberries come from Peruvian producers.
The two sides also reiterated their willingness to continue the technical process to facilitate the entry of Peruvian beef and poultry products into the Chinese market. These products will provide diversification opportunities for Peruvian agricultural exports.
Manero emphasized the importance of the talks for Peruvian farmers and producers as an important step in the strategy to consolidate sustainable markets and increase incomes in rural areas.
During his visit to China, Manero also held talks with Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Jun. The two sides agreed to move forward with a joint agenda covering product sanitary access, technology and equipment exchange, innovative seed research and development, and specialized technical training.
The talks deepened the two countries' shared vision of building a more competitive, sustainable and inclusive agriculture that will directly benefit farming communities.
In addition to the official talks, Manero is scheduled to attend an international event to promote investment opportunities in Peruvian agriculture. The event will bring together representatives of top Chinese and Peruvian companies in the fields of agricultural infrastructure, technical irrigation, agro-industry and scientific research, with the aim of strengthening bilateral trade relations and attracting foreign investment for the development of Peruvian agriculture.
