With major global production regions facing challenges, will macadamia nut prices continue to rise?

According to the latest industry report, this year's harvest in major global macadamia nut producing regions has faced widespread challenges, with overall yields falling short of expectations.

Latest developments in major producing regions:

Australia, a key producing region, is projected to yield only 40,000 metric tons—significantly below the initial forecast of 55,000 metric tons. This decline stems primarily from persistent rainfall in primary growing areas, leading to fruit drop, delayed harvesting, and quality concerns.

South Africa has also been affected by adverse weather. The official agency SAMAC has revised its 2025 production estimate downward from 93,400 tons to 85,200 tons. Some regions experienced warm autumn conditions that impacted flowering, while others faced cold snaps, hailstorms, or droughts, resulting in smaller nut sizes. Reduced pesticide usage has also negatively affected quality.

Kenya has completed its initial harvest, but to safeguard domestic processing interests, the export ban on in-shell nuts remains in effect.

Fluctuations in Chinese market demand significantly influence global macadamia trade flows and price formation mechanisms. Earlier this year, despite high international farm-gate prices and relatively weak Chinese import demand, in-shell macadamia prices remained broadly stable, supported by robust global kernel demand. Meanwhile, kernel prices saw a slight increase in July. Currently, China's domestic new-season harvest has just commenced, with domestic buyers adopting a wait-and-see approach and operating cautiously. Should Chinese market demand weaken further, it is expected to exert downward pressure on global market prices.

Since the beginning of this year, with the completion and operation of Dongju Nuts' summer nut processing plant in Gengma, Lincang, Yunnan, domestically produced summer macadamia nuts have fully entered the harvesting and processing phase, ensuring a continuous supply of high-quality domestic raw materials to the market. Concurrently, imported shelled nuts and kernel raw materials have been arriving steadily at our own cold storage facilities in Lin'an, maintaining stable supply and uninterrupted channels. Leveraging its dual domestic and international supply chain advantages, Dongju Nuts offers customers diverse and stable sourcing options. For any inquiries, please feel free to contact us anytime.
