Kosher Certification and Assessment to Be Incorporated in Food Safety Standards

Pubtime:2014-01-06Author:Source: Hits:
According to the U.S. food safety website (http://www.foodsafety.gov/), a kosher certification base in Vancouver, Canada, recently said it would consider incorporating food safety standards in the scope of certification and assessment, to ensure the food safety and protect the consumer health.

The latest certification process will be called “Jewish check” (Kosher Check), and then the certification be added “Kosher Checked. Globally Accepted” to the original letter “K”.

The latest certification will add some food safety standards, including the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), the Food Safety System Certification (FSSC22000), the British Retail Committee (BRC), etc.

In recent years, the market share of kosher food is growing rapidly. According to a rough estimate, about 12 million Americans are buying kosher food; however, only 8% among them are Jewish customers. Most people choose kosher food simply because its quality is more reassuring.
