According to Vietnam Economic Times, on December 3, the current acreage and capacity of Vietnamese cashew have fallen to the third in the world. The main reasons may include: Relatively low rate of machining application in cashew nut processing, which is mainly relying on manual labor; overheating processing industry, which results in inadequate supply of raw materials and import from abroad; processing enterprises over-reliant on bank loans; and insufficient attention paid to investment in deep processing and capacity improvement.
The Vietnam Cashew Association has proposed that, in order to achieve the sustainable development of cashew nut processing industry, the following measures should be taken: Maintain a cashew cultivation area of 320,000 hectares; suggest the Government to set up an insurance fund for cashew cultivation; introduce preferential policies to encourage cashew cultivation; strengthen the quality control over cashew processing; and support enterprises in improving technology and purchasing equipment.
