According to the latest report released by Russia State Statistics Service, the Russian sunflower seed production in 2013 is estimated to reach 10.2 million tons and it has hit a fresh record.
The Russian sunflower seed production this year is three times of 3.42 million tons, the production in 1990, and it has increased by 27.7% than 7.99 million tons, the production in 2012.
The government officials said that the sunflower seed production in this year could be large enough to meet the domestic consumption and more than one million tons of sunflower oil could be exported.
So far, Russia has basically completed the harvesting of sunflower seeds, and the areas that have been harvested have reached 6.75 million hectares, which has accounted for 95.2%. The Russian sunflower seed yields have reached the highest level in the recent ten years with 1.51 tons per hectare, by contrast, the yields were 1.3 tons in 2012 and 1.34 tons in 2011.
