United Nations Food Agriculture Organization Developed the New Standards of Spices and Herbs Industry

   United Nations Food Agriculture Organization recently published a journal said, the organization currently started an international action, so as to develop the quality standard for main products of spices and herbs with value of more than 1 billion US dollars.

 

Due to the rapid increase of demand in the Asian, as well as the social cognition for role of spices and herbs was deepened in wellness and culinary aspects, the spices industry has maintained the rapid growth in the past few decades. In view of the rapid development of spices industry, the richness and diversity of trades and products, as the global food standards agency set under the United Nations Food Agriculture Organization, the Codex Alimentarius Commission specially set up the Code Committee of spices and vanilla used for kitchens in 2013, which is responsible for worldwide dissemination of the most important quality standards of spices and vanilla used for kitchens. The first meeting of the Committee was held from February 11 to 14th in Kochi, Kerala located at the South of India.

 

FAO said that the Codex Alimentarius Commission hopes to develop these standards to promote the safety, quality and fairness of international trade in spices and herbs. It is learnt that the Code Committee of spices and vanilla used for kitchens would develop global quality standards for the world's most important spices, such as black pepper, vanilla, and nutmeg, as well as herbs, such as Rosemary, thyme, Basil and so on.
