Nigerian Association of Cashew Nuts said that its loss rate would be up to 50% during harvest season every year, due to the lack of processing capacity. The cashew fruit consists of fleshy receptacles (cashew apple, i.e. accessory fruit) and nuts (seeds, i.e. true fruit); the cashew apple is full of juicy, which can be used as fresh fruit, processed to juice, jam or wine and so on; after it is picked up, the cashew apple is not easy to be kept fresh; because the stock and processing facilities of Nigerian are not advanced, causing that the loss rate of cashew apple is more than 50%. As one of the world's leading producers of cashew nuts, the cashew nuts output of Nigerian is 1.8 million tons. By taking exports of raw fruit nuts with low-value s the main, and exports of finished products nuts and processing cashew apples are largely inadequate, Nigerian Association of Cashew Nuts called for that the government should increase their support for cashew industry, improving cashew nut processing capacity and added value. The finished nuts after being processed are not only used for export, and there is also a large domestic consumer market in Nigerian.
