India Bureau of Standards has revised the old version Colorants Standards for Plastics Used for Foods, estimating that the new standard would appear quickly.
Gupta, the general secretary of India Bureau of Standards, said that the revised Colorants Standards for Plastics Used for Foods provided more strict requirements for foods package suppliers after being compared with the old version of IS9833. For the new standard based on India national conditions, it also applied for the directives of the United States FDA and European Union EC
The Study showed that the food packaging has the potential negative transfer for the human health after colorants are applied. To protect consumers’ interests and ensure that food package suppliers were using the operation guideline of colorants, the India Bureau of Standards published the IS9833 in 1981(i.e. the previous version of current colorants standards of plastic used for foods).
For more than 30 years later, India Bureau of standards has been committed to work on the revision of this standard. In order to adapt the changing of environment and industry development well, after two years of thorough reform, the bureau has completed initial development of new standards.
