On April 8, 2014, EU official journal released the No. 2014/193/EU commission propositions about reducing cadmium content in food.
EFSA adopted the new acceptable weekly intake - 2.5 μg/kg (body weight) on Jan. 30, 2009. The average food exposure is close to or slightly over this value in EU countries, and the value is even doubled among some people.
