FDA Releases Four Revised Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Rules

Pubtime:2014-10-31Author:Source: Hits:

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published four revised provisions of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The provisions include: the change of the microbial standard for water that is directly applied during the growing of produce; the proposal of a tiered and more targeted approach to testing each source of untreated water; removing the nine-month interval for between application of raw manure and harvest of a crop; and redefining the definition of “farm” and of other relevant farm food. The FDA is making changes to key provisions of the four proposed rules based on the disputes from Association of Consumers against the regulations in FSMA a few months ago. The revised act is more accurate in details and comments from farmers are allowed. The agency is seeking comments for the next 75 days which will be formally established if the parties raise no objection.
