In accordance with the provisions of Swedish Food Regulations, food additives shall be no harm to the health of consumers, and shall only be used under necessary conditions during the course of food processing. Furthermore, if a certain additive is allowed to be applied to a kind of food, it does not mean that such additive can be used in other kinds of food. And if a new kind of food requesting for the use of additive, no matter such additive is a new type or has been approved to be used in other kinds of food, it shall apply for approval of usage.
The Swedish Food Regulations also provides that the manufacturers shall indicate the ingredients of food processed by them on the food packaging clearly, including additive composition; and it is not allowed to only give out a general category of additive, so the specific name is required. What’s more, the possible anaphylactic reaction caused by such additive shall be indicated on the food packaging as well, so as to remind the consumers.
In addition, the whole Sweden has established a relatively perfect monitoring mechanism, and the industry association of Swedish food enterprises plays an important role in supervising the self-discipline of its member companies.
