Vietnam Cashew Nut Industry Makes Efforts to Take the Road of Sustainable Development

The report of Vietnam News Agency shows that, on December 18, Vietnam Agriculture and Rural Development Department and Binh Phuoc Province People’s Committee jointly held 2014’ meeting on “Sustainable Development of the Cashew Nut Industry”.

In the meeting, Gao Defa, the minister of Vietnam Agriculture and Rural Development Department expressed that, the cashew nut is an important economic crop, which creates jobs and increases income for farmers. Vietnam shall prepare the conforming claim policy; establish a stable raw material supply base, and use science and technology to promote sustainable development of the cashew nut industry.

NGUYEN VAN HOA, the deputy director of the Planting Bureau of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department expressed that, in order to make the cashew nut industry take the road of sustainable development, it is necessary to reach an agreement on guidelines; properly invest, research and produce cashew nut towards the intensive development direction, and improve production quality and efficiency.

The statistics data of Vietnam Planting Bureau show that. 1982’ Vietnam cashew nut planting area was about 5000 hectares, which was 31.1 hectares in 2014, increased by 61 times when compared with that in 1982. In 2014, the output of each hectare cashew nut garden was 1.172 tons, with a year-on-year growth of 24%, thus meeting 35% of the requirements of processing raw materials.
