“The Minister of Trade and Handicrafts of Guinea-Bissau analyzed the export statistic data of cashews in 2014 and estimated that their cashew export volume will reach 200 thousand tons in 2015”, the Portuguese News Agency reported.

The official data of Guinea-Bissau indicates that the export volume of cashews is 136 thousand tons in 2014, except for around 20 thousand tons of illegal export intercepted in the Bissau Port and around 70 thousand tons of cashews intercepted in its northern areas bordering Senegal. The officials of the Minister of Trade and Handicrafts said that strict control measures will be taken in 2015, to bring the lost property into official channels, and the export volume of cashew this year is estimated to exceed 200 thousand tons.

December 11-12, 2014, the Minister of Trade and Handicrafts of Guinea-Bissau held Strategic Cashew Economy Seminars. The conventioners pointed out that the four factors hampering the healthy development of the cashew economy are: the bad road conditions of producing areas, the high export taxes, the non-equivalent exchange between cashews and rice and the lack of government supervision.
